Spoiled girl Frances Houseman, nicknamed Baby, spends the 1963 summer vacations at a vacation park in Catskills. There she meets the sexy dance instructor Johnny Castle and she falls for him like a log. At first he doesn't like her but later he begins to like her. When Johnny's dance partner becomes unwanted pregnant and unexpected complications arise, Baby enlists the help of her father, a doctor. Father Houseman assumes Johnny is the father of the unborn child and is vehemently opposed to the romance between his daughter and this villain. Meanwhile, a big dance show at a nearby hotel is in danger of falling apart because one of the dancers has fallen ill. Baby offers to volunteer.
